Questions

How do I find out which companies are registered at an address?
The commercial register records every company's registered office, but Zefix searches it by name and by UID, not by address. Prospex groups the register the other way round, over the 300,533 Swiss addresses that hold at least one company: type a street and a town, and the page names the companies registered there with their legal form.
Why are hundreds of companies registered at one address?
The address belongs to a fiduciary, a law firm or a domiciliation provider, and the companies use it as their legal seat while working elsewhere, or not yet at all. The register writes this on the address line as "c/o" followed by the provider's name, and the result page shows how many of the companies at an address arrived through the same one.
Is a registered office the same as an office?
No. A registered office is the address where a company receives legal mail and holds its seat for register purposes. A company can be registered at a fiduciary in Zug and have its staff in Zurich.
Where does this data come from?
The Swiss commercial register, through Zefix and the Swiss Official Gazette of Commerce (SHAB/FOSC). Addresses published in different spellings across cantons and languages are grouped to one building by street, house number and postal code.
Does the register show a sole proprietorship's home address?
Yes. A sole proprietorship is registered at whatever address its owner gives, which is often the home one, and the commercial register publishes it in full. That is why this tool leaves sole proprietorships out of every count and every list: repeating a home address here would spread it further.
